The Irish Diaspora is a central and fundamental feature of Irish History and Culture. It deeply affects how Irish people see the world. Wherever and whenever Irish communities have settled in lands away from home they have come together to look after their interests, to preserve and promote their cultural heritage and to defend and maintain theirs rights as citizens in their new homes.

Today in Russia the Irish community is more fortunate than the first waves of Irish emigrants, forced from their homes by famine, oppression, persecution and a lack of economic opportunity. Accordingly, it is recognised that, just as others from time to time, and from place to place, provided much needed assistance to our forbearers, so it is appropriate, in our turn, to try to provide support and assistance for those sections of the local community in Russia who, today, are solely in need.

The Society sets its priorities and organises its activities in line with these founding principles.

The Society is established for cultural, social and charitable objectives.

In particular the Society is established:

  • To promote the cultural heritage of Ireland throughout Russia without distinction of age, sex, race, political or religious persuasions, or other opinions, and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and information pertaining to Ireland, and understanding of Irish affairs.

  • To organise and present events for the purpose of celebrating relevant/traditional Irish cultural activities.

  • To assist charitable projects in Russia

  • To provide a welcoming and supportive environment for the Irish community in Russia, especially for new arrivals, whether as visitors or residents, together with their dependents.

  • In furtherance of the above aims, to cooperate with anybody having objects similar to those of the Society.
